Brief History

Gonzalez Byass was founded in 1835 in the town of Jerez, Andalusia, in Southern Spain. Still in hands of the founding family (now in its 5th generation), it has always based its business policy on one principle – namely the passion of its founder, Manuel M. Gonzalez, for excellence in wines.

  • 1835: Foundation of the Company by Manuel M. Gonzalez
  • 1844: Tio Pepe first sold in the UK 1844: González Byass starts producing and selling Brandy
  • 1855: The Byass family, distributors in the U.K., become shareholders of the Company. The Company name changes to Gonzalez Byass in 1863
  • The first cellars were inaugurated in 1855
  • 1870: Opening of the Bodega “La Concha” inspired in the designs of Gustave Eiffel
  • 1936: TIO PEPE logo is launched
